NN ONLINE:

Bangladesh Police officers have started wearing newly designed uniforms, introducing a stark, iron-toned look for personnel in metropolitan areas and specialized units.

From Saturday, staff serving in all metropolitan police units and specialized branches—including the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)—began officially donning the new attire. District police units, however, have not yet received the updated uniforms.

Police officials said distribution outside metropolitan areas will occur in phases, with all units across the country expected to transition to the new design in due course. Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of the Detective Branch (DB) of the DMP, said on Saturday that DMP personnel had already begun duties in the new uniforms. He noted that the transition to the new attire started across the force on Saturday.

Officers from various DMP units were observed on duty in the updated uniforms, signaling a notable visual shift for the capital’s police force.

Assistant Inspector General (Media) AHM Sahadat Hossain had earlier confirmed that personnel from metropolitan police entities—such as the DMP and Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP)—as well as specialized units including the Highway Police, River Police, and the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), would be the first to adopt. The decision to update uniform colors for the Bangladesh Police, Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP), and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) was approved on 20 January 2025 as part of a broader reform initiative following the July Mass Uprising. The change aims to give the force a refreshed identity that symbolizes modernization and accountability.
