Bangladesh-India focuses on visa, repatriation

The 4th Bangladesh-India Consular Dialogue was held in New Delhi on Wednesday, centering on crucial issues such as visa matters, repatriation, the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty, and extradition cases.

Rokebul Haque, Director General (South Asia) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led the Bangladesh delegation, while the Indian delegation was headed by Dr. Aman Puri, Joint Secretary (CPV), according to a press release.

Established in 2017, the Bangladesh-India Consular Dialogue mechanism aims to strengthen people-to-people contacts through an effective channel of communication on consular, visa, and mutual legal assistance cooperation matters between the two countries.

During the dialogue, both sides engaged in wide-ranging discussions to enhance coordination and cooperation on consular issues, including visa matters, repatriation, the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty, and extradition cases. The Bangladesh delegation raised various visa-related difficulties faced by some Bangladeshi nationals during their visits to India.

Additionally, both sides agreed to further enhance the bilateral Revised Travel Arrangement (RTA) to facilitate the movement of nationals from both countries.

Both nations reiterated their commitment to promoting people-to-people exchanges and agreed to hold the next round of dialogue in Dhaka on a mutually convenient date.
