Bangladeshi archers Ruman Shana and Diya Siddiqui won silver medal in the recurve mixed event at the second stage of the 2021 Hyundai Archery World Cup at Lausanne, Switzerland on Sunday.
Bangladeshi pair lost by 5-1 in the final against the Dutch pair of Gabriela Schloesser and Sjef Van Den but winning silver is best result for Bangladesh in the global stage till date.
The second-seeded Dutch pair scored 17 (9+8) in the first set but experienced Ruman looked nervous and scored just seven before Diya yielded same number of points. The second set was better for the Bangladeshi pair as they earned 16 but the experienced Dutch pair overtook them with 16.
The 17-year old Diya looked solid and determined in the third and fourth set but despite her shooting 18 those sets ended with a stalemate of each side earning 35 points apiece.
The Dutch side clinched the gold medal by winning the last pair of sets by 37-34 but the teenager Diya ended with silver and future promises while Ruman, the number one archer of Bangladesh, seemed to gain his confidence back for Olympics.
Diya and Ruman, beat top-seeded German pair en route to final and also won over strong teams like Canada and Spain.
On 2019, Ruman qualified Bangladesh its first quota place for an Olympic Games at the 2019 Hyundai World Archery Championships in individual event by beating experienced Italian Mauro Nespoli in the bronze medal match and put Bangladesh on the championship podium for the first time.
