Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus has reaffirmed that Bangladesh and China will move forward together, strengthening their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to bring peace, prosperity, and well-being to the people of both nations as well as the wider world.
He conveyed this message in a video address at a grand reception hosted by the Chinese Embassy at a city hotel on Wednesday evening, marking the 76th founding anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh-China diplomatic relations.
Extending heartfelt congratulations on these two milestones, the Chief Adviser expressed deep appreciation for China’s long-standing friendship, trust, and support for Bangladesh.
He praised China’s remarkable achievements under the leadership of the Communist Party of China in fields such as economic growth, technological advancement, poverty eradication, and public service, noting that these successes have served as an inspiration and contribution to the Global South and the international community.
Calling China Bangladesh’s “closest friend and most dependable partner,” Prof Yunus reiterated his gratitude for Beijing’s consistent assistance and cooperation.
In his speech, Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen noted that 2025 not only marks the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China but also the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.
He recalled China’s great sacrifices in defending global peace during World War II and highlighted the country’s transformation into a major power with a strong commitment to peace and security.
“Under the CPC’s leadership, China has achieved the extraordinary feat of eradicating absolute poverty. It will always remain a force for peace, stability, and development in the world,” Ambassador Yao said.
He also emphasized President Xi Jinping’s Global Governance Initiative, which he said has earned broad international recognition-including from Bangladesh-as a blueprint for strengthening multilateral cooperation.
Marking 50 years of Dhaka-Beijing diplomatic relations, Yao described the two nations as “good neighbors, genuine friends, and reliable partners,” bound by mutual respect, sincerity, strategic autonomy, and win-win cooperation.
“China stands ready to continue supporting Bangladesh in its modernization drive and to open a new chapter in building a China-Bangladesh community with a shared future,” he added.
Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, who attended as the chief guest, praised China’s contributions to Bangladesh’s development-particularly in infrastructure, education, science and technology, and health care-stating that such cooperation has brought tangible benefits to ordinary Bangladeshis.
Special guest and Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki highlighted the growing people-to-people ties, remarking that “Bangladesh-China relations are now at their strongest point in history.”
The event drew more than 600 guests, including Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, senior leaders of major political parties, diplomats, representatives of international organizations, members of the Chinese community, academics, journalists, and policy experts.
The evening featured dazzling cultural performances by the Yunnan Golden and Silver Bird Art Troupe and the Quanzhou Art Troupe, who entertained the audience with ethnic dances, face-changing acrobatics, and traditional Chinese instrumental music, earning repeated applause.
Guests also explored exhibitions celebrating 50 years of China-Bangladesh relations and commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
Enterprise booths, tourism showcases, and cultural experience zones at the venue also drew strong interest from attendees.
