After Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s four for, Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mahmudullah Riyad’s half-centuries secure 33 runs victory for Bangladesh in the first match of the three-match ODI series against visiting Sri Lanka at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
In reply to Bangladesh’s 257/6, Sri Lanka dismissed for 220 in 46. over. Wanindu Hasaranga (74 off 60) was the top scorer for Sri Lanka. Kusal Perera (30) was the second-highest scorer for the visiting team.
Chasing the target Sri Lanka start brilliantly as the two openers added 30 runs in just 5 overs before Danushka Gunathilaka (21) dismissed by Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Then cutter master Mustafizur Rahman joined him to remove Pathum Nissanka (8) in his very first over and Sri Lanka lost their second wicket to 41.
Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan took the crucial stand of Kusal Mendis (24 off 36) who was looking dangerous.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz sent back Kusal Perera (30) and Dhananjaya de Silva (9) in consecutive overs. The Lankans were 98 for five in 24 overs.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz prolonged the woe for Sri Lanka removing Ashen Bandara Sri Lanka lost their 6th wicket to 102.
From here, Wanindu Hasaranga and Dasun Shanaka tried to make some resist before Dasun Shanaka (14) fell to Saif Uddin.
Hasaranga and Isuru Udana added 62 runs in the eight-wicket stand which raised hope for Sri Lanka but the former dismissed by Mohammad Saifuddin scoring 74, the team’s highest, just 60 balls.
Mustafizur Rahman who left the field for injury struck in the first ball after returning on the field to remove Udana (21). He also took the wicket of Lakshan Sandakan (8) and finished the figure 34/3 in his 9 over.
Mizra was the best bowler today who took 4 for 30. Saif Uddin also took 2 wickets while Shakib Al Hasan bagged one wicket.
Earlier, After winning the toss Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal chose to bat first in the first ODI of the three-match series at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today.

Bangladesh lost opener Liton Das in the third ball of the second over. This is his 3rd duck in the last seven innings. Chameera took the wicket of Liton Das (0 off 3). Then Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan made resist and the duo added 38 runs between them. Shakib was looking good but dismissed cheaply to Gunathilaka scoring 15 off 34.
Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim took the charge and added 56 runs in the 3rd wicket stand. Before going out to Dhananjaya Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal made 52 off 70 with the help of 6 fours and a six.
Tamim Iqbal, who has been playing well from the start, completed his 51st ODI fifty. He reached this milestone with a single off Laxman Sandakan. Earlier, the country’s best opener touched the milestone of 7500 ODI runs and 14,000 runs in international cricket across formats.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah added 109 runs in the fifth wickets stand between them before the former dismissed by Sandakan scoring 84 off 87 with the help of four boundaries and one over boundary.
After losing Mushfiqur Rahim (84 off 87), Mahmudullah reached another ODI fifty. But he did not prolong his innings before bowled by Dhananjaya de Silva, Riyad made 54 off 76 with two fours and one six.
Bangladesh lost their sixth wicket to 230 in 47.1 over. But Afif Hossain’s 27 off 22 and Saif Uddin’s 13 off 9 help Tigers to post 257 for six wickets.
For Sri Lanka, Dhananjaya de Silva was the most successful bowler who took 3 wickets for 45 while Laxman Sandakan, Gunathilaka, and Chamera bagged one wicket each.
