The government of Bangladesh has announced a 10-day public holiday from 5 June to 14 June to mark Eid-ul-Azha, providing citizens with an extended break for celebrations and travel.
In a media briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy on Tuesday, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam stated that the original Eid holiday, scheduled from 5 to 10 June, has been extended to 14 June.
To offset the extended time off, government offices will remain open on two Saturdays—17 May and 24 May—according to Law Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul, who was also present at the briefing. This measure ensures that essential administrative work is not disrupted during the long holiday.
Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud also addressed the press, sharing insights from the Council of Advisers meeting chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
Earlier this year, a similar extended holiday was granted for Eid-ul-Fitr, when the government declared a nine-day break from 28 March to 5 April. Initially planned as a five-day holiday, it was extended through an executive order. That break also followed Independence Day on 26 March, with only one working day—27 March—before the holiday began.
The newly announced Eid-ul-Azha holiday is aimed at easing travel and enabling families to gather and celebrate the festival across the country.
