Bangla book fair in New York ends

A four-day ’32nd Bangla Book Fair’, under the initiative of Muktadhara Foundation, ended on Tuesday at Jamaica Performing Arts Center (JPAC) in New York, USA. With the slogan ‘Bangabandhu’s Instruction in the Globalization of Bangla Language, Literature and Art’, the book fair drew a huge number of book loving people and cultural personalities, said a press release received in Dhaka.
Some 25 Bangladeshi publishers and 10 institutions of the USA joined the fair this year. Muktadhara-JFB Sahitya Purashkar was awarded to poet Asad Chowdhury this year during the fair, reports BSS.
The concluding day’s programme included performance of dance and songs, poem recitation and children’s drawing. The day was designated for children.Apart from the US, writers and readers from Kolkata, Canada, Australia, Germany and London joined the fair which turned a get together of Banglees living across the country.

Publishing houses Nalanda and Kathaprakash were given Chittaranjan Saha Best Publisher Award. Muktodhara Foundation General Secretary Biswajit Saha said books worth around one lakh dollars were sold in the four-day fair. Visitors have requested to extend the timeframe of the fair, he said, adding “we will think of holding the fair for seven days next time”.
