Chattogram Bureau :
Like China’s industrial city Shanghai, Chattogram will be ‘one city to town’ – the dream of the people of the port city for the past decade is now coming true.
The massive development work that is going on in Patenga and Anwara areas through the construction of tunnels touching the bottom of Karnaphuli has opened the doors of immense possibilities for the people of Anwara upazila on the shores of the Bay of Bengal.
However, those concerned say that to get benefits from this development, industrialisation, master planning should be done. Otherwise the desired benefit will not be obtained.
As the communication system around the tunnel has changed rapidly, the country’s big industrialists and businessmen have now made Anwara their new investment destination. Businessmen have taken the initiative to start at least 100 industrial factories within a few kilometers of the tunnel area by investing thousands of rupees.
Establishment of new industrial plants, construction of commercial buildings, elite restaurants, modern health centers, opening of new bank branches have turned the once neglected Anwara into a ‘city.’
According to Chattogram Chamber, BGMEA and local administration sources, various industries including garments, shipbuilding, edible oil, fish processing, steel, cement will be built on the south bank of Karnaphuli in the next four years. 15 domestic and foreign companies have taken the initiative to invest in the China Economic Zone.
Work on 4 new factories has also started in Korean EPZ. The Bangabandhu Tunnel area of Anwara is going to be the bridge of the country’s largest industrial corridor from Mirsarai to Cox’s Bazar.
