According to sources, the Banasree canal bank lies on the border of the South and North City corporations. This jurisdictional ambiguity led to neither corporation taking responsibility for the waste removal. According to the Geographic Information System (GIS) map, the area falls under the North City Corporation’s jurisdiction.
Upon noticing the issue, DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md Mizanur Rahman immediately ordered the waste management department to take action. Subsequently, DSCC cleaning workers began removing the waste from the area.
Md Mizanur Rahman emphasized the importance of providing relief to Dhaka residents without getting entangled in jurisdictional disputes. Following his instructions on Wednesday afternoon, DSCC commenced the waste removal operation at Banasree canal using 10 dump trucks, one wheel scavenger, one backhoe loader, and the necessary manpower. The removal is expected to be completed on Thursday.
The DSCC waste management department reported that sacrificial animals were slaughtered in 55 of the 75 wards of DSCC on Wednesday, the third day of Eid. No animals were slaughtered in Wards 6, 11, 16, 17, 21, 34, 44, 58-61, 65-67, 69, and 70, 72-75. They also confirmed that 100% of the waste has been removed from all wards.
Additionally, DSCC claimed to have achieved 100% waste removal from the cattle markets.
