Banaripara wife hammered to death

A man named Sumon Roy has surrendered calling the National Emergency Service number 999 after beating his wife to death with a hammer due to a family dispute in Banarpara upazila of Barisal district on Sunday. The deceased 30-year-old Beethi Samdar is the daughter of Basu Samdar, a native of Gopalganj. Arrested killer husband Suman Roy, 33, is the son of Sudhir Roy, former member of Ward No. 6 of Udayakathi Union of the upazila.
Mainul Islam, OC of Banaripara police station, confirming the facts said the incident took place in the PGS area of ward number 6 of Udayakathi union of Banaripara upazila around 11:30 am on Sunday.
Mainul Islam, OC of Banaripara police station, said the incident took place in a marital dispute. After the incident, the husband called 999 to report the murder and surrender. Then police went there and arrested the husband. Shafikul Islam, Sub Inspector (SI) of Banaripara Police Station said that Beethi got married to Suman Roy 5 years ago. Currently he has a three month old daughter named Sukta Roy.
The SI said that there was an altercation between the husband and wife around 11 am over family issues. At one point, Suman got angry and hit his wife with a hammer.
Beethi was injured critically and the neighbors rescuing her took to Banaripara Upazila Health Complex and later sent to Barishal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital.
SI Shafiqul said Beethi died at around 4 pm while undergoing treatment there. Suman was arrested from home after getting the news.
