Pedal-powered rickshaw pullers have formed a human chain demanding ban on operating battery-powered auto-rickshaws on the busiest main roads of Barishal city.
The Pedal-powered Rickshaw Workers Union organised this program on Sadar Road in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall in Barishal city on Monday.
The Pedal-powered Rickshaw Workers Union President Dhalu Mia, General Secretary Chan Mia, Deputy General Secretary Abu Kalam and other leaders addressed at the programme. They said that although the Barishal Metropolitan Police Traffic Department has banned battery-powered auto-rickshaws on various important roads including Sadar Road, it is not being followed, but rather these unlicensed rickshaws are plying freely everywhere including Sadar Road. But we have been demanding for a long time – the movement of battery-powered autorickshaws should be stopped on the busiest roads including Sadar Road, Line Road, Katpatti Road, Girja Maholla Road, Chawkbazar Road and Kakoli intersection in Barishal city.
