BAIRA urges swift reopening of Malaysia labour market

Staff Reporter :

A human chain was formed in front of the Expatriates’ Welfare Building in the capital on Thursday, urging the government to immediately reopen the Malaysian labor market by complying with all the conditions set by the Malaysian authorities.

It is crucial to note that while 13 other countries have already resumed labor export to Malaysia under the new conditions, Bangladesh is dawdling on this matter. As a result, the country is on the verge of losing the opportunity to send 1.2 million workers, putting at risk an estimated $5 billion in potential remittance earnings.

Concomitantly a delegation of general members from the Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) submitted a memorandum to the Adviser on Manpower Export and Overseas Employment.

In the memorandum, BAIRA members accentuated the importance of ensuring safe and ethical migration for Bangladeshi workers. They called on the government to urgently take measures to reopen all currently suspended labor markets, including Malaysia, prioritizing the interests of migrant workers.

They pledged full cooperation with the government in implementing any official recruitment mechanism, affirming their commitment to comply all legal procedures in sending workers abroad.

Prominent and notable recruiting agency leaders who spoke at the event included Farid Ahmed Majumder of Al Supto Overseas, Mohammad Mohiuddin of Purabi International, Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman of Earth Smart Bangladesh, AMS Sagar of EMS International, Mohammad Anwar Hossain Bhuiyan of Tasnim Overseas, Mohammad Atikur Rahman Biswas of Al Aqaba Associates, Sagar Mahmud of Al Ghaffari, Mohammad Moniruzzaman of Skyland Recruiting, Advocate Mohammad Sazzam Hossain of Arman Air International, Kafil Uddin Majumder of Freedom Overseas, Hawladar Forkan Uddin of SF Global, and Dubai-based businessman Mohammad Alauddin.
