Court Correspondent :
A CMM court here on Tuesday sent BNP’s chairperson adviser adv Khandker Mahbub Hossain to jail rejecting both bail and remand petitions in a case filed in connection with vandalism, bomb explosion and attack on police. Metropolitan magistrate M Rezaul Karim passed the order after a hearing on remand petition by investigating officer of the case DB inspector Fazlur Rahman and the bail petition of Khandker
Mahbub, also vice chairman of Bangladesh Bar Council. Adv Sanaullah Mia, lawyer of Khandker Mahbub, earlier submitted a bail petition before the court and sought the rejection of police remand.
Moving the bail petition, Sanaullah Mia said it is illegal that the IO of the case sought a seven-day remand showing Khandker Mahbub in a case, although the High Court earlier asked the police to refrain from further harassing the BNP leader without due process of law.
On January 22, police sought seven-day remand of Mahbub Hossain in the case.
The case was filed with Ramna police station on March 2 last year against 28 BNP leaders, including Khandker Mahbub Hossain and party’s acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, on charges of vandalizing vehicles, blasting cocktails and preventing police from discharging duties in Shantinagar and Malibagh areas in the city during a demonstration on the day.
Of them, 26 BNP leaders including Mirza Fakhrul earlier got bail in the case. Khandker Mahbub Hossain was arrested by DB police from near the Kadam Foara intersection adjacent to the Jatiya Press Club in the city around 2:15 pm on January 7 this year.
