Bagerhat prepares Typhoid vaccination drive for children

The Bagerhat District Health Department in association with the World Health Organization, has completed all necessary preparations to make the typhoid vaccination campaign-2025 a success in all nine upazilas, including two pourashavas in the district, from 12 October to 13 November 2025.

This was disclosed by Dr Riaduz Zaman, Medical Officer, Civil Surgeon’s Office, Bagerhat, at a press briefing held in the auditorium of the Civil Surgeon’s Office on Thursday morning, with Dr ASM Mahbubul Alam, Civil Surgeon of Bagerhat, in the chair.

It was also revealed at the press conference that a total of 411,381 children, aged from nine months to 15 years, will be inoculated with typhoid vaccines from 2,221 educational institutions, 10 permanent camps, and 1,148 temporary camps in the district.

Before taking the vaccine, the intended children should be registered with the seven-digit EPI Vaccination App (VAXEPI).

Dr Riasat Azim, SIMO (WHO), Bagerhat, stated in the briefing that typhoid is still regarded as a fatal, water-borne disease. Children are the main victims of this deadly disease.

He added that, in our country, on average, 15 per cent of people are infected with typhoid each year, and around 8 per cent of the total population die from the disease annually.

Dr ASM Mahbubul Alam, Civil Surgeon, in his presidential speech, informed journalists that the campaign will be conducted to eradicate the fatal disease typhoid from the country.

He added that 15 per cent of the total admitted patients in the hospitals of the country are typhoid patients.

The price of typhoid vaccine in the open market is several thousand taka per dose.

The Government of Bangladesh has purchased these anti-typhoid vaccines from the World Health Organization, spending a large amount of money to make the country free from typhoid for the first time.

The Civil Surgeon urged both the print and electronic media to create public awareness so that parents are encouraged to bring their children under the Typhoid Vaccine Inoculation Campaign-2025.
