Bagerhat low-lying areas under water for 3 days

Most of the main roads of Bagerhat district town were inundated with water rushed from the northern areas of the country accompanied with incessant and torrential rains and many of its (town) dwellers were marooned for the last few days, causing to untold sufferings to them.
The water of the Major rivers like Bhairab, Daratana, Baleswer, Mongla, Panguchi, Chitra etc. of the district was following above 2.4 feet of the danger mark on Sunday. It was rained in the whole day and night. As a result, the dwelling houses, roads, lanes and by-lanes went under knee-deep water and it lasted for the last 4 days.
During the last 24 hours it rained 115 millimeter, according to the Mongla Metrological Department. On the other hand, Sundarbans, the biggest mangrove forest of the world and a world heritage went under four feet water. Due to the onrush of the sea water accompanied with torrential rains and gusty wind fish were washed away from many ponds and fish farms in Bagerhat Sadar, Rampal, Mongla, Morrelganj, Sharankhola etc.
Upazilas suffered a great loss to the fish cultivators. On the other hand, fishing boats and fishing trawlers which went to the Bay of Bengal to catch fish were forced to take shelter in Sundabans in the face of such an abnormal inclement weather.
The day labourers, rickshaw pullers, easy-bikers, van-pullers and marginal income group of people were thrown out of jobs and fell into great distresses.
Khanjahan Ali Road, Rail Road, Sadhanar Mor (turn), Shaltala, PTI Mor (turn), Khardar School Road, Sadar Hospital Road, Govt, Boys’ High School Road, Road in front of Bagerhat District Post Office, Kazi Nazrul Islam Road, Main Kuncha Bazar, Basabati, Mithapukur (pond) Mor (turn), Jahanabad Girls’ High School Road, areas behind the Children Center were inundated with the rain water. Pourashava Road is under water.
Not only that but also water entered into the Pourashava office premises. The rain water also entered into the various business establishments. The water marooned people of the low lying areas of the Pourashava have been suffering a lot of inconveniences for the last few days.
