Bagerhat district has become a hot-spot of drug traders and a good number of drug traders were arrested along with different kinds of drugs by the different law enforcing agencies during the last few months, according to reports received here from the different places of the district.
Two drug traders were caught red-handed along with 1 mound (40 kgs) Ganja from a pickup (Dhaka-Metro No.15-3009) after searching it staying near at M/S. Sagar Filling Station under Mollahat Upazila in the district by the side of Khulna-Gopalganj Highway on Tuesday morning (at 8-30 am) by a skilled contingent of DB (Detective Branch of) Police of the district. The arrested drug traders are Abul Hossain (32), son of one Joynal Abedin hails from Karibgan under Bhojpur Upazila in Chattogram district and Md. Saiful Islam (30), son of one Ramjan Ali of village Udia Pathar under the same Upazila. It was confirmed by Swapan Kumar Roy, Inspector of district DB police and told, acting on secret information a contingent of DB police conducted a raid near the M/S. Sagar Filling Station, seized above mentioned pickup, ganja (one mound) and arrested 2 drug traders. The DB Inspector further told the 2 drug traders used to sell drugs, mainly ganja in small Bazars and village markets of the district for a long time. In this connection legal action was already taken against arrested drug trades Abul Hossain and Md. Saiful Islam by this time.
Some 4 drug traders were arrested along with 80 grams ganja from the enclosure of a house in the village Dahormoubhog under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district when a police contingent led by SI Anup Kumar Roy and SI Anichur Rahman of Fakirhat Model PS conducted a raid the village under Anti-Drug campaign at Wednesday night (March 06) on the basis of a secret information. The arrested smugglers are Shayshab Bala (24), son of one Mahadeb Bala, Tamaresh Adhikari (26), son of one Upananda Adhikari, Manab Talukdar (50), son of one Dhirendra Talukdar and Tarapada Biswas (60), son of one Purnacharan Biswas. They all hail from the same village. After they had been arrested police searched their bodies and seized 80 grams ganja. Md. Ashraful Alam, Officer-in-charge, Fakirhat Model PS told, in this connection a case was already lodged with the PS against the arrestees under Anti Drug Act and they were sent to the court at Bagerhat district headquarters on Thursday.
Another report states that a drug trader was arrested along with 5 kgs ganja from the turn (Mor) area of Dhaka-Mongla Biswa Road under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district by a contingent of DB (Detective Branch) police of Bagerhat district at Monday night (March 04). The arrested smuggler named Md. Omar Hawladar (23), son of one Kabir Hawladar hails from Dhanishafa under Mathbaria Upazila in Pirojpur district, at present he is living in a rented house at Mongla Port town in Bagerhat district. SI Ahaduzzaman of Bagerhat DB Police told, acting on secret information a contingent of of DB police conducted a raid the turn (Mor) area of the Biswa Road (Fakirhat Upazila) at the night and arrested and arrested the drug trader from there. Later, the police searched his body and recovered 5 kgs ganja from a trolley bag. Md. Ashraful Alam, Officer-in-charge of Fakirhat Model PS told, the arrested drug traders were handed over to the PS and a case was lodged with the PS by SI Md. Abdur Rauf of Bagerhat DB Police as the plaintiff under Narcotic Act.
A woman drug trader named Sumi Aktar alias Bakul (30), wife of one Md. Dulal Hossain of village Badurtala under Morrelganj Upazila in the district was arrested along with 5 kgs ganja by a skilled squad of DB police of Bagerhat from Town Noapara area under Fakiirhat Upazila on Sunday (February 11) in the early morning.
SI Swapan Kumar Roy of Bagerhat district DB police disclosed, acting on secret information a woman drug trader is waiting along with ganja on Dhaka-Mongla Highway at Town-Noapara under Fakirhat Upazilain order to hand over the same to another DB police raided the spot at 6 am (February 11), arrested drug trader Sumi Aktar and seized 5 kgs ganja from her possession. The police officer added, Sumi Aktar is associated with this illegal profession for long. In this connection a case was registered with the local PS under Anti-drug Act against her.
