Badhon demands to reveal the cost of movie ‘Mujib’

Many movies were made on the biography of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman during the rule of the Awami League government. Among them, the most talked about movie is ‘Mujib: The Making of a Nation’.

The movie was a joint production of BFDC of Bangladesh and National Film Development Corporation (NFDC, India.

India’s acclaimed director Shyam Benegal has made this movie with the biggest budget in Bangladesh’s cinema history.

The movie was released on October 13 last year.
Bangladeshi actress Azmeri Haque Badhon has demanded to release the information about how much money was spent on the production of the movie ‘Mujib’.

In a recent interview, the actress said, “I want the account of the movie named ‘Mujib’. I want to see how a movie with such a budget can be made so badly!”

Badhon has been active on social media since the beginning of the anti-discrimination students’ movement. Later, she was on the streets for the students.

After the fall of the Awami League government, many corruption facts of that time are now coming forward.
Badhon claimed that the movie ‘Mujib’ has not been spared from this corruption. So, she wants to see the cost of this movie. While talking in this regard, Badhon told media, “What made the movie with a budget of billions of taka! I want to see where that money went. I have suffered a lot, movies made with the country’s money, made with our tax money, were made as I wanted.”

There have been many criticisms about the teaser and trailer of the movie ‘Mujib’.
The issue of budget has also been discussed.

In addition to criticism, various information about the budget is shared through social media.
Some even claimed that the budget of the movie is Tk120 crore.

How much money was the budget for the movie ‘Mujib’? In response to this question, Nuzhat Yasmin, former executive producer of the movie and the then Managing Director of BFDC, said, “An agreement of 70 crore rupees (83 crore in Bangladeshi taka) was made between Bangladesh and India for the production of the movie.”

In this regard, on January 14, 2020 the agreement was signed in New Delhi on behalf of Bangladesh’s then Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud and India’s then Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Prakash Keshav Javadekar.

According to the agreement, Bangladesh has paid 60 per cent of the total budget. As Bangabandhu’s biopic, the investment of Bangladesh was about 50 million taka.

On the other hand, the remaining 40 per cent of the money was supposed to be invested in India, which is about 33 crores in Bangladeshi taka.

Bangladeshi actor Arifin Shuvoo played the role of Bangabandhu in ‘Mujib’ cinema. He took only Tk 1 as remuneration.

On the other hand, actress Nusrat Imrose Tisha, who played the role of Fazilatunnessa Mujib, also took a fee of Tk 1.

Nusraat Faria, Riaz Ahmed, Raisul Islam Asad, Gazi Rakayet, Tauquir Ahmed, Misha Sawdagor and hundreds of other artistes have acted in other roles in the movie.
