The child’s name is Gopal Sawtal. He is three and a half years old. He has been physically disabled since birth.
With everyone’s cooperation, he wants to live a healthy life like other children in the society.
The child is from the Murichhora tea garden on the border of Karmadha Union in Kulaura upazila of Moulvibazar.
He is the only child of resident Anil Sawtal and housewife Sanchariya Sawtal. The child cannot stand or sit normally. When placed in a sitting position, he collapses.
So, for feeding and other care, mother Sanchariya Sawtal had to lie on the floor of the house about six months ago.
A small round hole is dug.
The baby Gopal is placed in the hole, which is about two and a half feet deep, and made to stand.
The hole is made so that the baby’s head and hands are outside. When the baby cries loudly when hungry, the mother puts the baby into the hole and feeds it.
When he cried most of the day, his mother tried to stop him from crying by keeping him inside the hole and providing him with various entertainments. Gopal’s grandmother Kalpana Sawtal helped in this work.
Mother Sanchariya Sawtal, besides taking care of the housework, took care of her son all the time.
They keep an eye on him. Father Anil Sawtal works in the Murichhora tea garden for a wage of 170 taka. In a family of poverty, it is almost impossible for them to get their child treated.
