Last Monday, rumours suddenly spread that noted film actress Babita was ill.
A photo of with a cannula in her hand was posted from a Facebook account named Farida Akhtar Babita. As a result, many believe that Babita is sick.
The news quickly spread on social media. However, Babita told the media that she is well. This Facebook account is not hers. In fact, she doesn’t use Facebook.
Actress embarrassed by fake news about illness.
Babita told this correspondent, “I don’t use Facebook, I’ve said that before. Even then, such a sensitive news was spread on Facebook – I’m deeply saddened by this. I have taken legal action before, but it was not possible to identify who or what was spreading such news through my Facebook account.”
“This is not the first time, but several fake news stories have been spread from that account before. Even news of my death was spread,” she added.
While talking in this regard, Babita said, “Earlier, the news of my death was spread on Facebook. Imagine how my relatives would feel after hearing such touching news! I don’t really know what to do about this. I’ve given up.”
Actress Babita thinks strict action should be taken against the spread of fake news and rumours.
She said in this regard, “Someone I know sometimes says, ‘Hey, I’m on your Facebook, I’ve been messaging you about this.’ I’m surprised and say, ‘I don’t have Facebook, who did you talk to? Many people are defrauding people like this from fake Facebook accounts.”
Babita said she is healthy and staying at her home in Gulshan, Dhaka.
