Sheikh Arif Bulbon :
It can be said that everyone who acts in films has a dream of national recognition for
acting i.e. National Film Award. Now acting who once became a living legend, all they want is to get the ‘lifetime honor’. Meanwhile, the fate
of Bangladesh’s internationally renowned heroine Babita is very good because she has been awarded the National Film Award seven times in recognition of her performance. Babita has also been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2016 National Film Awards.
In 1975, the government introduced the ‘National Film Award’ system. Babita was nominated for the National Film Award for the first time for acting in the lead role in the movie ‘Badi Theke Begum’ directed by Mohsin. She won the second National Film Award in 1976 by acting in Amjad Hossain directed movie ‘Noyonmoni’. In 1977, she won the third National Film Award for ‘Best Actress’ for her performance in the movie ‘Bashundhara’ directed by Subhash Dutta. Babita did a hat-trick by getting this National Film Award in 1977.
Babita has also won this award four more times for the movies ‘Poka Makorer Ghor Bosoti’, ‘Ramer Sumoti’, ‘Ke Apon Ke Por’ and ‘Hason Raja’. While talking about her acting career, honours and personal life, Babita told this correspondent, “I have been acting all my life and always tried to make my only child human. By the grace of Allah, I have been able to make Anik, my only son, a human being – thank you very much. I consider ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ as the highest achievement of acting career. Respected Zahir Raihan was the inspiration behind my entry into films. Then those whose names I would like to mention are honourable Khan Ataur Rahman, Subhash Dutta, Narayan Ghosh Mita, Kazi Zahir, Sheikh Niamat Ali, Abdullah Al Mamun, Amzad Hossain, Chashi Nazrul Islam and after all, apart from acting, the one who has supported me as a family man is our ‘Nayok Raj’ Razzak. I am especially grateful to world-renowned Oscar-winning filmmaker Satyajit Ray because acting in his film ‘Ashani Sanket’ my acquaintance developed and brought me to the international arena. After my mother’s death, my elder sister Suchanda Apa has taken care of me and my younger sister Champa has always been by my side like a shadow. In fact, my only child Anik who is now my world, my motivation to live. Of course, I am grateful to the film-loving audience of this country, because with their love and enthusiasm, I have pushed myself forward. I have become the complete Babita today.”
