Babar indicted for tax evading

A Dhaka court yesterday (Wednesday) framed charges against
former State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfozzaman Babar in a case filed for
evading income tax amounting to Tk 7.15 crore.
Judge Md Rezaul Islam of Dhaka’s Special Court-5 framed charges against Babar rejecting a time petition filed on his behalf.
The court fixed September 21 to start the trial of the case. During the charge framing Luffozzaman Babar pleaded himself not guilty.
On February 14, 2010, Syed Jaqir Hossain, Deputy Director of National
Board of Revenue, filed the case against Babar with Ramna Police Station of the city.
The hearing on charge framing of the case has been put off 49 times so far. Babar is a convict in the sensational 10-truck arms haul case.
On January 30, a Chittagong court sentenced 14 people, including Jamaat Chief
Matiur Rahman Nizami and BNP leader Lutfozzaman Babar to death in the 10-truck
arms smuggling case, after about 10 years of the arms recovery.
