Adviser for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, and Youth and Sports, Asif Mahmud Sojib Bhuiyan, on Wednesday said supporters of the fascist regime cannot evade accountability for their actions, as the brutalities committed during the July Uprising and the horrors of the Aynaghar torture cell have been extensively documented both locally and internationally.
“Yesterday, we visited the infamous Aynaghar and revealed to the world the grim realities of what transpired there. Despite clear evidence, supporters of the fascist forces continue to shamelessly deny the truth.
However, their attempts at denial will be futile this time, as records of their atrocities during the July Uprising have been thoroughly documented and published,” he said
He made these remarks as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of Dhaka University’s ‘Youth Festival 2025’ held at the university’s central playground.
Emphasizing the importance of documenting the July Uprising and the crimes committed at Aynaghar, the adviser noted that those who seized power through killings and enforced disappearances would forever be regarded as enemies of the masses, both at home and abroad.
“To rebuild Bangladesh with the power and energy of our youth, we have been organizing youth festivals nationwide, and young people are enthusiastically participating,” he said.
“This event is designed to bring our youth together and showcase their potential and capabilities on a global stage,” he added.
Reflecting on the youth’s role during the July Uprising, he highlighted that young people were the driving force behind the movement and continue to be instrumental in countering conspiracies. If they remain as engaged and proactive as they are now, misleading Bangladesh will become impossible, he remarked.
Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan presided over the event, while Youth and Sports Secretary Md. Rezaul Maksud Zahedi attended as the special guest.
The adviser also distributed awards among winners of various competitions, including drawing, case-solving, debate, and chess.
The three-day-long Youth Festival will conclude tonight with a grand concert featuring the renowned national award-winning rock icon Faruq Mahfuz Anam James, popularly known as ‘Nagarbaul James.’
