Awareness meet on swine flu held in Rangamati

An awareness meeting was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office on Monday to prevent swine flu, a highly contagious respiratory disease caused by a new strain of influenza virus.The district administration and Health Department jointly organised the meeting with DC Shamshul Arefin in the chair.Among others, Civil Surgeon Dr Snaho Kanti Chakma, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Rangamati Md Mostafa Jaman, Additional Police Super Chitto Ranjan Datta, President of Rangamati Press Club Shakwat Hossain Rubel and Secretary of Rangamati District Scout Md Mostafa Kamal spoke at the meeting while Dr Binod Shekor Chakma presented the key note paper about Swine flu. The meeting informed that Swine flu, also known as H1N1 virus, was made headlines in 2009 when it was declared a pandemic. On Sunday, April 26, 2009, the World Health Organisation declared the disease a public health emergency. Pandemics are contagious diseases affecting people throughout the world or on multiple continents at the same time. H1N1 has already been seen in 74 countries across the globe.
Doctors, government officers, school teachers, Journalists, scouts also joined the meeting and gave their opinion to prevent swine flu in the district.
Civil Surgeon Dr Snaho Kanti Chakma informed the meeting that Rapid Response Team (RRT) was formed in the district and special beds were also prepared at Rangamati General Hospital for swine flu case.
