The Investigation Agency of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has initiated a probe into alleged crimes against humanity linked to the Awami League as a political party, accusing the party of trying to suppress the student-led July Uprising.
ICT Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam said on Tuesday that a dedicated official has been appointed to oversee the inquiry, with other parties potentially investigated if connected to the case.
“The investigation is moving forward against the Awami League both as a party and as an organization. The formal probe into the Awami League is now underway,” he noted.
“A dedicated investigation officer has been appointed, and they will aim to complete the inquiry promptly. Based on the findings, appropriate action will be taken against the Awami League as a party after the report is submitted.”
Tajul spoke during a briefing at the ICT premises on Tuesday.
