Editorial Desk :
Awami League must know how the leftists targeted it for its popularity as the largest popular party to advance the cause of leftist politics of one-party autocracy.

Under communism, there is no free election for the people to choose the government of their own.

There is no freedom of the press or independence of judiciary.

The communist thinks he knows best what is good for the people.

It is an ideology to be strictly followed and nobody has a right to dissent.

It is a regimented system where individuals have no right to disagree. The supremacy of the communist party is the supreme law.

Our purpose in the present situation is not to judge the communism as an ideology.

Let the communist countries remain happy with their system in their countries.

We have no intention to interfere in their respective domestic politics.

But we are against their secretive plan to destroy our democratic system of multi-party politics.

In our democratic system individuals are not unknown entities not to be of any importance. But in a democracy individuals have their rights guaranteed and enforceable through an independent judiciary.

The truth is, it took too a long time and after creation of new country Bangladesh under the leadership of India, the leftists found a fertile ground for asserting their ideology and used Awami League as vehicle for the success of leftist politics through the backdoor.

This is because they were fully aware that to our people communism is repugnant and leftists have no chance of winning public support in their own name or with their own identity.

So they tenaciously pursued to change Awami League step by step to serve their purpose.

In the uncertain turmoil situation of post Bangladesh when Bangabandhu
found himself confused and frustrated to make his government effective and successful, he yielded to the leftist idea of one-party rule concentrating all powers in his hand and formed BAKSAL.

He accepted the leftist parties under the one-party government leaving no trace of democracy.

We are not attributing blame to any political party but simply stating the events as unfolded. Bangabandhu along with his family members available was brutally assassinated.

In no time the senior leaders of Awami League were also eliminated.

Thus the void was created in the leadership of Awami League! Or to explain in our own way, the big void in the democratic politics of the country.

The crisis of free and fair election remained despite the fact that the democratic Constitution of 1972 was revived but the Constitution was amended with regard to the election process in a tricky way.

It has denied the people free and fair election so that the sitting Awami League government can continue unchanged by the people through free election.

It is shocking to see Awami League known for its vigorous defence of democracy is now opposing free election in support of the mechanism of rigging election by the government with the help of government officials.

Awami League should now change its name and become the Communist Party of Bangladesh to be honest and logical about the whole thing.
