Business leaders have urged the district administration and police to take swift action to solve Narayanganj’s severe traffic congestion, the insecurity faced by workers in industrial areas, poor medical services, and the city’s extreme pollution.
On Tuesday, a separate exchange meeting was held with the newly appointed Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police in the conference rooms of their respective offices, attended by business leaders and representatives.
BKMIEA President Mohammad Hatem said, “Narayanganj is one of the country’s top business zones. The first knit garments export from Bangladesh started here.
At least 8,000 crore taka worth of goods are exported annually from the BSCIC area alone. Around 2,60,000 workers are employed in 450-500 factories.
To ensure their safety, regular drives are needed against drug dealers and muggers in and around the BSCIC area.”
Chamber President Mustafizur Rahman Bhuiyan Dipu said, “Not only inside the city people remain stuck for hours in areas like Madanpur and Rupshi as well.
If congestion at some key points is resolved, factories will be able to transport goods on time.
The condition of both public and private hospitals in Narayanganj is very poor.
Proper arrangements must be made so that day-laborers and low-income people can receive adequate treatment.”
Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mizanur Rahman Munshi said, “Traffic problems cannot be solved by the police alone coordination among the City Corporation, district administration, and police is essential.
No armed criminals or extortionists will be allowed to operate in Narayanganj. We have already started recovering weapons and arresting drug dealers.”
The Deputy Commissioner said, “Many institutions have their own security committees.
These need to be more active. Ensuring the safety of all business owners, big or small, is our priority. Each of you contributes significantly to the national economy.
Narayanganj is one of the pillars of the country’s economy-this cooperation will continue in the future.”

Almogir Hossain, Additional Superintendent of Police Tasmin Akhter, Former President of Chamber Masuduzzaman Masud, Chamber Vice-President Sohel Sarowar, Directors Riyad Mohammad Chowdhury and Md.
