Auspicious start for Agrani Bank in DPL Cricket

Agrani Bank Cricket Club made an auspicious start in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) Cricket defeating defending champions Dhaka Abahani Limited by six wickets in their inaugural match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur on Monday.
Chasing Abahani’s modest total of 234 off 50 overs, Agrani Bank romped home making 235 for the loss of four wickets when they had 30 balls to spare.
Agrani Bank made a good start with two openers Imranuzzaman and Shadman Islam put on together 58 runs before Imranuzzaman was bowled out by Mosaddek Hossain.
Imranuzzaman hit a run-a-ball 35 featuring seven fours.
After Imranuzzaman’s dismissal, Shadman Islam and Imrul Kayes added together 46 runs in the second wicket stand before Shadman Islam was dismissed by Mrittunjoy Chowdhury when the Bankers’ total was 104 for the loss of two wickets.
Shadman Islam notched up 46. His 70-ball knock was laced with five fours.
After Shadman’s dismissal, Imrul Kayes and Amite Hasan rescued their team from danger contributing together 125 runs for the third wicket partnership before Imrul Kayes was caught by Rakibul Hasan off Mahfuzur Rabby when Agarani Bank’s score was 229 for the loss of three wickets.
Imrul Kayes was a victim of nervous nineties. He was deprived from a century for just six runs.
Imrul Kayes notched up a run-a-ball 94 featuring seven sixes and three fours.
After Imrul’s departure, Amite Hasan was bowled out Mahfuzur Rabby when Agrani Bank’s total was 230 for the loss of four wickets.
Amite hit a polished 44. His 63-ball innings had four fours.
Mahmufuzur Rabby was the highest wicket taker of Abahani Limited with two wickets for 41 runs.
Abahani Limited had a poor start as opener Shahriar Komol (0) was dismissed by Robiul Haque when Abahani’s total was just two runs.
Opener Parvez Hossain Emon and Najmul Hossain Shanto repaired the damage contributing together 54 runs for the second wicket partnership before Shanto (20) was trapped leg before wicket by Nayeem Hasan when Abahani’s total was 56 for the loss of two wickets.
Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Mithun (7) was caught behind by Imranuzzaman off Shohidul Islam when Abahani’s score was 64 for the loss of three wickets.
Emon and Mominul Haque (27) added together 41 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Emon was dismissed by Shuvagata Hom Chowdhury when Abahani’s total was 105 for the loss of four wickets.
Emon hit an exact 50. His 74-ball innings was belted with six fours.
After Emon’s departure, Mominul Haque (27) was bowled out by Shuvagata Hom Chowdhury when Abahani’s score was 117 for the loss of five wickets.
Mosaddek Hossain and Mahfuzur Rabby built a notable partnership scoring together 46 runs in the six-wicket stand before Mahfuzur Rabby (10) was bowled out by Ruyel Miah when the Dhanmondi-based out-fit total was 163 for the loss of six wickets.
Mosaddek Hossain and Mrittunjoy Chowdhury added together 30 runs for the seventh wicket partnership before Mrittunjoy (14) was trapped leg before wicket by Ruyel Miah when Abahani’s score was 193 for the loss of seven wickets.
After departure of Mrittunjoy, Abahani batters failed to make any remarkable partnership.
Mosaddek Hossain hit a captain’s knock of 73. His 65-ball innings was ornamented with three sixes and five fours.
Shohidul Islam captured four wickets in the space of 44 runs, while Shuvagata Hom Chowdhury and Ruyel Miah bagged two wickets each instead of 37 and 47 runs respectively.
Nayeem Hasan and Robiul Haque picked up one wicket each for 32 and 54 runs respectively.
