August 15 no more public holiday

The public holiday on August 15, traditionally observed as National Mourning Day, is cancelled, according to sources within the Ministry of Public Administration.

Officials from the ministry confirmed on Tuesday that a notification regarding the cancellation is currently being prepared.

It is anticipated that the notification will be issued following instructions from senior officials, potentially by Tuesday or the following day.

Earlier on Tuesday, Brigadier General (retd) M Sakhawat Hossain, Home Affairs Advisor to the interim government, announced, “We will discuss the August 15 holiday this afternoon, and a decision will be made accordingly.”

He also detailed the security arrangements for August 15, stating, “A significant number of police will be deployed to maintain order. We will ensure that no disruptions occur.

The security measures will be comprehensive, involving the police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and possibly the army.”
