City Desk :
Speakers in a discussion underscored that people should change their attitude towards the autistic children.
“We should change our attitude towards the autistic children and nurse them with care so that they can prepare themselves to contribute to the society and the national development,” they said.
The speakers said this while addressing a meeting in observance of the “World Autism Awareness Day” with the theme “Transformation Towards a Neuroinclusive World for All” at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner of Chapainawabganj, reports BSS.
Chapainawabganj district administration and the Department of Social Service jointly arranged the meeting while Deputy Commissioner of the district AKM Galiv Khan attended it as the chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner Ahmed Mahbub-Ul-Islam in the chair.
Chairman of Chapainawabganj Zila Parishad valiant freedom fighter Md. Ruhul Amin, Civil Surgeon Dr. SM Mahmudur Rashid and valiant freedom fighter Advocate Abdus Samad were present as special guests.
Now, the autistic children should be called golden people or specially demanded people instead of disabled people, the DC said.
The attitude of the parents and the society towards them should be changed and they should be taken to the mainstream of the society, otherwise the development of the country would be hindered, he mentioned.
He further said the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her daughter Saima Wazed Putul have been working relentlessly to involve them with all activities of the state as well as the society.
Deputy Director of the Chapainawabganj District Office of the Department of
Social Service Umme Kulsum upheld the overall situation of the autistic
population in the district.
She said there are 42,401 autistic people in the district and of them, 28,585
people are getting allowance, 387 people are getting sub-stipend and 995
people are getting micro-credit.
A total of 1,000 people would be newly included in the number of the autistic
population in the district, she added.
