S M Shafiqul Islam, Joypurhat:

Police have arrested a young man named Hasib Al Mamun (32) for trying to withdraw government fertilizer using fake bank vouchers in Joypurhat.

He was arrested from the BCIC Buffer Godown in the CO Colony area of Joypurhat city on Monday (August 11) evening.

The arrested Hasib Al Mamun is the son of Mamunur Rashid of Gopalpur village in Panchbibi upazila of the district. It is learnt that he worked at his father’s dealer point as a representative of Messrs. Mamun Brothers Chalkol.

According to the case, on that day, like every month, Hasib Al Mamun, a representative of Panchbibi dealer Messrs. Mamun Brothers Chalkol, tried to withdraw fertilizer from the buffer godown by showing a voucher of Tk 750,000 from Janata Bank Joypurhat branch and a voucher of Tk 900,000 from Janata Bank Panchbibi branch. Upon verification, it was found that the voucher from Janata Bank Joypurhat branch was valid, but the voucher from Panchbibi branch was fake.

The manager of the bank concerned said that no voucher for the said number and amount was issued that day. Later, during interrogation by Joypurhat Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rashedul Islam and godown officials, Hasib Al Mamun admitted to making fake vouchers by forging the bank’s seal and signature.

After the incident, the BCIC Buffer Godown authorities informed Joypurhat Police Station, and the police went to the spot and arrested him. Then SM Hasanur Rahman, the accounting officer of BCIC Buffer Godown, filed a case with Joypurhat Police Station as the plaintiff.

Joypurhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tambirul Islam said a case has been filed for attempting to withdraw government fertilizer using fake bank vouchers. The accused has been sent to jail by the court.
