Assets of ex-minister Dastagir attached
Staff Reporter :
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has attached nearly 4,880 decimals of land and properties worth around Tk400 crore belonging to former textiles and jute minister Golam Dastagir Gazi, following a court order.
In a press release issued on Sunday, the CID stated that it seized 4,879.92 decimals of land recorded under 69 deeds with a deed value of Tk16 crore along with immovable assets, including Gazi Tire Company and related infrastructure.
CID alleges that Gazi, a former MP from Narayanganj-1 (Rupganj), accumulated the wealth through forced land grabs, commission-taking, forgery, hundi trading, and other organized crimes, including manipulation of invoices.
The CID investigation found that the properties were acquired between 2015 and 2018. On 8 July, the Senior Special Judge of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court approved the attachment of these assets upon request from CID’s Financial Crime Unit.
Gazi is also under investigation for money laundering, along with several associates and entities linked to him. The CID has launched a separate probe into alleged overseas money laundering.
Legal proceedings are underway under the Money Laundering Prevention Act, and various organizations have been contacted to collect relevant records and evidence.
