Assam flood death toll rises to 48

The death toll rises to 48 as the flood situation in Assam worsens significantly on Tuesday, with three additional fatalities.
More than 1.13 million people have been affected across 23 districts, according to an official bulletin from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
The flood has severely impacted districts such as Lakhimpur, Darrang, and Golaghat, affecting 165,000, 147,000, and nearly 107,000 people respectively, Financial Express reports.
As of Monday, over 644,000 people were affected across 18 districts. The administration has established 489 relief camps and distribution centres in 21 districts, providing shelter to 286,776 people. Emergency services have rescued around 2,850 individuals from various locations.
In the past 24 hours, the ASDMA has distributed essential supplies to flood victims. The floods have submerged 2,208 villages and damaged around 42,476 hectares of cropland. Additionally, over 832,000 domestic animals and poultry have been impacted by the widespread flooding across the state.
According to Times of India, local villagers have said the floods have created numerous challenges, including shortages of food and clean water for many affected individuals. The floodwaters have also inundated the Jhakhalabandha police station and submerged the police quarters.
In response, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited flood-affected areas across the state, including an assessment of flood preparedness measures at Kaziranga National Park.
Key infrastructure, including embankments, roads, and bridges, has also been affected in multiple districts.
The Brahmaputra river is flowing above danger marks at Nimatighat, Tezpur, Guwahati, and Dhubri.
Several tributaries are also above danger levels. The Barak river and its tributaries Kushiyara and Dhaleswari are flowing above the red mark at various points.
