Rumana Islam is a famous singer in the country’s music arena. Those who have heard different songs about ‘Maa’ (mother) must have heard the song ‘Mayer Moto Apon Keho Nai’. The artiste of this song is Rumana Islam. She got stardom by singing this song in her childhood.
However, Rumana Islam lent her voice for the first time in the movie
by singing the song titled ‘Mon Majhi Tor Boitha Nere Ami Ar Baite Parlam Na’ in the movie ‘Din Jai Kotha Thake’ directed by her father Khan Ataur Rahman. The song ‘Mayer Moto Apon Keho Nai Re’ was also included in this movie.
These two songs were written and composed by director Khan Ataur Rahman. Khan Ataur Rahman was also producer of the movie
‘Din Jai Kotha Thake’.
Since then, Rumana Islam has tried to be regular in movie songs and modern songs. Still she regularly sings songs. The latest released song is in her voice are – ‘Jedin Chole Jete Cheyechhile Tumi’ and ‘Ekta Mon’. The first song was composed by Ovi Moinuddin and music was directed by Yousuf Ahmed Khan. Second song was written by Jamal Hossain and its music was composed by Muhin Khan. These two songs have been released on YouTube.
Meanwhile, Rumana’s recently released two original songs are – ‘Ekhono Srabon Jhoray’ (lyrics written by Jamal Hossain and music
composed by Uzzal Sinha) and ‘Chotto Ei Buke’, (lyrics and composition by Fuad Al Muqtadir, and musical arrangement by JK Majlish).
The audience likes to listen to the songs of yester years in the voice of Rumana Islam. While talking in this regard, the artiste told this correspondent, “I have plans to make some new songs. If the situation in the country becomes a little more normal, I will start working, Inshallah.”
Meanwhile, it is noted that Rumana Islam got BCRA Award for the song ‘Jedin Chole Jete Cheyechhile’. She was awarded as the Best Singer
for this song.
Rumana Islam was not behind even in the troubled days of Corona virus. At that time, she sang two songs about Corona to give courage to
people. One song was ‘Prokritir Obhiman’, which lyrics were written by Adhora Jahan and music was composed by Farid Ahmed, and another song was with Agun titled ‘Bhoy Peona Bhoy Korona Jodi Hoy Corona’, which lyrics and tunes were composed by musician Agun and musical arranged by Farid Ahmed.
Meanwhile, last August 12 was Rumana Islam’s birthday. However, she did not have the opportunity to celebrate her birthday this year.
Rumana Islam tried to enrich herself by taking music lessons from her parents as well as from Ustad PC Gomez and Anil Kumar Saha. ‘Astittwo,’ released by Laser Vision, is Rumana’s one of the mentionable albums which comprises original songs.
As a child artiste, Rumana Islam acted as a child actor in movie ‘Apon Por’ under the direction of her father Khan Ataur Rahman. But after
that she was not seen in acting.
Rumana Islam completed her SSC from Viqarunnisa Noon School, HSC from Holy Cross College, and then completed graduation in Architecture from BUET. She is also an architect.
