The members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested Ataullah Abu Ammar Jununi, leader of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), along with five of his associates, from Siddhirganj, Narayanganj. The court granted a 10-day remand for the suspects on Tuesday.
The investigating officer in the case requested remand for the arrested individuals, and after the hearing, the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court judge granted a 10-day remand, with 5 days for each of the two cases. The suspects were detained on Monday night at the Bhumi Palli Tower in Siddhirganj’s Bhumi Palli Residential Area.
Along with them, law enforcement recovered Tk 21,39,100, a sharp knife, and a steel chain with sharp teeth and handles. On Tuesday, Inspector Md Shahadat Hossain of Siddhirganj Police Station filed charges against them under the Anti-Terrorism and Illegal Entry Act.
RAB Spokesperson Lt Colonel Ashikur Rahman confirmed the arrests, identifying the detainees as Ataullah Abu Ammar Jununi (48) from Myanmar, Mostak Ahmed (66), Salimullah (27), Mosa. Asmaul Hosna, Hasan (15), and Moniruzzaman (24).
The ARSA group, which has created widespread terror in Rohingya camps, has been linked to various crimes like murder, abduction, and drug trafficking. Despite efforts by Bangladesh’s law enforcement, the group’s leader, Ataullah, had remained on the run until his recent capture.
