The International Crimes Tribunal has issued arrest warrants against former ministers Hasan Mahmud and Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Naufel, along with former Chattogram City Mayor A J M Nasir and 15 others, over the alleged killing of student Wasim and others during the July Movement in Chattogram.

The tribunal’s three-member panel, led by Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Mojumdar, passed the order on Tuesday (March 25). The other two panel members are Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud and retired District and Sessions Judge Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.

Following the hearing, Chief Prosecutor Md. Tajul Islam briefed the media, stating, “Today, we filed applications seeking both production and arrest warrants regarding the incidents in Chattogram. Leaders and activists of the Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League were largely involved in the massacre during the July Movement.”

He further stated that the investigation agency had identified the accused individuals based on field-level inquiries, video footage analysis, and reports from various newspapers. The agency has found substantial evidence against them.

The tribunal issued arrest warrants against Hasan Mahmud, Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Naufel, A J M Nasir, and 15 others, including leaders of Chattogram’s Chhatra League, Jubo League, and Awami League.

Additionally, Tajul Islam mentioned that another accused, Firoz, who was already in prison for a separate case, was involved in attacks during the uprising. The prosecution requested that he be shown as arrested in this case as well, which the court approved.

The chief prosecutor also informed that the court has extended the investigation period by two months in a separate case concerning a murder in Mohammadpur. An Ansar member named Omar Faruq allegedly shot and killed a person without provocation. He was arrested and presented before the tribunal on Tuesday, which ordered his transfer to prison.
