A Dhaka court has issued arrest warrants for four people, including renowned cricketer and former Magura-1 member of parliament (MP) Shakib Al Hasan, in connection with a cheque dishonor case.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman issued the order on Sunday.
The court also issued an arrest warrant for Gazi Shahagir Hossain, the managing director of Shakib’s company Shakib Al Hasan Agro Farm.
On December 15, Shahibur Rahman filed this case on behalf of IFIC Bank at the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque in Dhaka.
The court accepted the complainant’s statement and ordered the accused to appear by Saturday. However, when they failed to show up, the court issued arrest warrants.
According to the case details, Shakib’s Agro Farm had taken loans at different times from the Banani branch of IFIC Bank for business purposes.
In return, two cheques were issued by the farm.
However, when the accused attempted to withdraw funds using the cheques, they were dishonored due to insufficient funds. The total amount at stake in the two dishonored cheques is approximately Tk 4.15 crore.
