A Rajbari judicial magistrate court issued an arrest warrant against Nazrul Islam, Chairman of Fareast Life Insurance Company Limited and an officer of its company for not giving insurance claim.
Judicial magistrate Md Samsuzzaman passed the order on March 14 after hearing the complaint. The accused has not yet surrendered to the court. Currently he is on the run.
Sources said, Md Rafiqul Islam Babu, a resident of Rajbari Municipality of Ward number-9, owed TK 25 lakh 20 thousand as insurance claim to the company. The plaintiff filed a lawsuit with the section 418/420 of the Penal Code against the company Chairman and Md Mojammel Hoque, branch co-coordinator of Rajbari for not getting insurance claim appropriately since 19 July 2016. The case number is C/R 173/17.
In his complaint, Rafiqul Islam said, his wife Swapna Parvin died on 28 June in 2015. She had an insurance policy No- 1260000201-3 of TK 12 lakh 60 thousand. But she died 7 months after the inception of the policy.
According to the policy, the inheritance of Swapna is supposed to receive of Tk 25 lakh 20 thousand but the company gave Tk 6 lakh 30 thousand to her inheritance.
The husband of Swapna claimed for the rest of the money to Faridpur servicing cell of the company but the branch office denied paying the dues.
Afterwards, the plaintiff sent legal notices twice for recovery of the money. But the company did not respond to it.
Eventually, the plaintiff filed a case on March 14 against the company chairman and the Faridpur Branch coordinator. The Rajbari judicial magistrate passed the warrant on the same date after verifying all related documents.
Md. Hemayet Ullah, Chief Executive Officer of Fareast Islami Life Insurance Company Limited told the New Nation on Monday that the Rajbari court passed the warrant issue without verifying the documents.
“The magistrate passed the order intentionally. He does not know law. It can not be treated as court. These judges frequently pass such kind of orders,” he claimed.
“Civil society men should raise voice against such rules. We have already appointed a lawyer to face the bad order.”
