Army has recovered six luxurious cars from former MP Haji Mohammad Selim’s old Dhaka residence.

The joint forces surrounded the house in Azimpur Dayerasharif area on Sunday and carried out the operation.

Members of the law enforcement agencies declined to speak to the media on the matter on record. However, several members who took part in the operation, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that six luxury cars were recovered from a hidden room in the building’s underground parking. The building’s manager was detained for questioning.

Those involved in the raid further said that among the recovered vehicles in the building, named Gulshanara Masuda Tower, was a car bearing a Member of Parliament’s logo. The house manager could not provide any proper information regarding the cars.

Earlier, the army has surrounded the house of former Dhaka-7 MP and ringleader of various crimes including land grabbing, Haji Mohammad Selim.

Around 12 noon on Sunday, the army cordoned off a house belonging to Haji Selim in the Dayrasharif area of Azimpur, Old Dhaka.
It is assumed that the move came following a report published in a national Bangla daily titled “Anti-state conspiracy in a secret meeting at Dhanmondi,” on Saturday.

According to the report, inside the corporate office of Madina Square-owned by Haji Selim’s Madina Group in Dhanmondi-various dangerous anti-state plans of the banned Awami League were being hatched. The office is reportedly overseen by one of his sons, Awami League leader Erfan Selim.

Sources said six luxury cars were recovered from a secret underground room of the Lalbagh building. The building manager was detained for questioning.

Among the vehicles found in the building named Gulshanara Masuda Tower, one bore a Member of Parliament’s logo. The manager could not provide proper information regarding the vehicles.

However, members of law enforcement declined to comment immediately to the media on the matter.
