Army officer shot dead in Cox’s Bazaar

Lieutenant Tanzim Sarwar Nirzon has tragically died during a joint operation to prevent robbery in Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar, according to the Inter Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR).

Lieutenant Tanzim, originally from Tangail, was a student at Pabna Cadet College and had completed the 82nd BMA long course before being commissioned into the Army Service Corps (ASC) in June 2022.

The incident occurred early on Monday, when a Bangladesh Army team from the Chakaria camp received information about a robbery.

The team proceeded to east Maijpara village in Dulahazara union at around 3 am.

Lieutenant Tanzim pursued the robbers as they attempted to flee, during which one of the robbers stabbed him in the neck, resulting in severe bleeding.

Following the attack, he was quickly rushed to Malumghat Memorial Hospital, where the attending doctors pronounced him dead, as stated by the ISPR.

In connection with the incident, three robbers were arrested, along with a local gun and six rounds of ammunition. Additionally, three other individuals were detained on suspicion of robbery.

Chakaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Manzur Quader Bhuiyan confirmed the arrests to the media on Tuesday.
