The tenure of executive magistracy powers for captains and above-ranked officers serving in the Bangladesh Army has been extended by another two months. The Ministry of Public Administration issued a gazette notification to this effect on Thursday.
According to the gazette notification, army officers empowered as executive magistrates will be able to consider offences under sections 64, 65, 83, 84, 86, 95(2), 100, 105, 107, 109, 110, 126, 127, 128, 130, 133, and 142 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.
It stated that commissioned officers holding the rank of captain and above in the Bangladesh Armed Forces (including officers of equivalent rank deputed to the Coast Guard and Border Guard Bangladesh) have been granted special executive magistracy powers under sections 12(1) and 17 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898. This authority will remain in effect for 60 days starting from 12 September, during which they will be able to exercise these powers across the country.
Earlier, on 14 July, the same order had been issued for a two-month period, which expired on Thursday.
