Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman has reaffirmed the Bangladesh Army’s firm commitment to justice and human rights during a meeting with the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances (WGEID) on Monday.
The WGEID delegation, led by Vice-Chairperson Grażyna Baranowska, met the Army Chief at Army Headquarters, as stated in an official post on the Army’s Facebook page.
Baranowska expressed concerns over past allegations involving some army personnel previously deputed to units like the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
In response, General Waker clarified that once on deputation, such personnel fall entirely under the control of the respective agencies. He reiterated that the Bangladesh Army upholds human rights and will continue to cooperate with national and international investigative authorities.
