Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman have talked about Rohingya repatriation and defence ties with China during his recent visit and his subsequent meetings with high-ranking officials there.
During the visit, which began on August 20, General Waker-Uz-Zaman held meetings with several senior Chinese military and civilian officials, including Political Commissar General Chen Hui of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
On August 22, the Army Chief was formally welcomed with a Guard of Honour at the PLA Headquarters.
He later paid a courtesy call on General Chen Hui, where discussions covered a range of topics such as strategic cooperation, enhancing people-to-people contact, and China’s assistance in the repatriation of forcibly displaced Rohingya from Myanmar.
Talks also focused on securing Chinese support for the advancement of Bangladesh’s military industry.
On August 23, General Waker-Uz-Zaman met with Chen Defang, President of China’s NORINCO Group.
Discussions centered around ongoing defense cooperation, including the maintenance and upgrading of military equipment supplied by NORINCO to the Bangladesh Army.
The Army Chief also visited the PLA’s Academy of Armoured Forces in Beijing, inspecting training facilities and military equipment production laboratories.
Notably, Bangladeshi Army officers currently receive advanced technical training at this international-standard academy.
In addition to the academy, General Waker-Uz-Zaman toured various defense and research facilities operated by NORINCO in Beijing and Xiang, as well as China Aerospace Long-March International Co. Ltd and Aisheng UAV Factory, which specialize in modern weapons and ammunition manufacturing.
General Waker-Uz-Zaman concluded his official visit and returned to Bangladesh on Wednesday.
