Staff Reporte :

The Bangladesh Army has expressed serious concern regarding a recent series of unfounded and misleading reports disseminated by certain Indian media outlets.

In a protest note released on Tuesday evening, the Inter Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) articulated these concerns.

The note states, “The Bangladesh Army is alarmed by the recent wave of unfounded allegations published by specific Indian media outlets, such as The Economic Times and India Today, which suggest the potential for a coup and a breakdown in the command structure of the Bangladesh Army.

These claims are completely false and seem to be part of a calculated disinformation effort aimed at destabilising Bangladesh and tarnishing the reputation of its armed forces.

“We firmly assert that the Bangladesh Army is strong, cohesive, and wholly dedicated to its constitutional responsibilities under the capable leadership of the Chief of Army Staff.

“The command structure is solid, and all personnel within the Bangladesh Army, including senior generals, remain steadfast in their loyalty to the constitution, the chain of command, and the citizens of Bangladesh.

“Any insinuations of disunity or disloyalty among our ranks are entirely fabricated and malicious in nature.

“It is particularly troubling that The Economic Times has consistently engaged in such disinformation efforts.

Similar false narratives were published by this outlet on 26 January 2025, just a month before the latest reports.

This recurring behaviour raises serious concerns about the motives and credibility of these media organisations.

“Additionally, various online platforms and a handful of disreputable television channels have also propagated these falsehoods, further amplifying the disinformation campaign.

“Instead of adhering to the principles of responsible journalism, these outlets seem to be acting as instruments of misinformation, fostering distrust between the Bangladesh Army and the Bangladeshi populace.

“We call upon these media organisations, particularly those in India, to uphold good journalistic standards and avoid publishing unverified and sensational stories.

It is expected that they will seek comments and clarifications from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) prior to releasing such reports. The ISPR is always available to provide accurate and official information regarding the Bangladesh Army.

“The Bangladesh Army remains resolute in its commitment to protecting the sovereignty, integrity, and security of the nation. We urge all media outlets to act responsibly and refrain from disseminating false narratives that only serve to create unnecessary tension and confusion.”
