The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecasted that temperatures in April may exceed 41°C, accompanied by the possibility of severe thunderstorms.
According to Md. Mominul Islam, Acting Director of the Meteorological Department, rainfall is expected to be below average next month. Additionally, one or two low-pressure systems may form in the Bay of Bengal, with at least one potentially developing into a cyclone.
The weather forecast also indicates that Bangladesh may experience 5-7 days of light to moderate thunderstorms, including hailstorms, and 1-3 days of severe Kalbaishakhi (nor’wester) storms.
April is likely to witness 2-4 mild (36-37.9°C) to moderate (38-39.9°C) heatwaves and 1-2 intense heatwaves (40-41.9°C). Both daytime and nighttime temperatures are expected to be higher than normal.
Meanwhile, major rivers across the country are expected to maintain normal flow. However, heavy rainfall in the northeastern region and adjoining upstream areas during the second half of April could lead to a rapid rise in water levels in some rivers.
The daily average evaporation rate is expected to range between 3.50-5.50 mm, while the average duration of sunlight may be 6.50-8.50 hours per day.
