Tangail Correspondent:
The approach road on the western side of the SDS Bridge over the Elanjani River in Tangail Sadar upazila has collapsed, severing road communication on the Tangail-Torabganj route.
The incident occurred around midnight on Tuesday, causing immense suffering to residents of at least 20 surrounding villages. The bridge is located on the Tangail-Torabganj road.
Locals said that due to continuous rainfall over the past few days, the water level in the Elanjani River — a branch of the Jamuna — rose significantly, creating a strong current. The force of the current eroded the soil at the western end of the bridge, leading to the collapse of the approach road.
As a result, people from Torabganj, Charabari, and nearby villages are now forced to use alternative routes. The road was a vital route used daily by hundreds of commuters and vehicles. Since the collapse, all vehicular movement, both small and large, has been completely suspended.
BNP Central Publicity Secretary Sultan Salauddin Tuku visited the site and urged the concerned authorities to take immediate steps for repair and restoration.
