Annual Theatre Festival kicks off at DU

The 17th Annual Theatre Festival of the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies of Dhaka University (DU) kicked off on Monday at Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of the university.

The nine-day long festival will continue till October 10 where a total of 15 plays will be staged at the auditorium of TSC every evening. Anyone can enjoy those event after collecting ticket providing a less amount.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the theatre festival as the chief guest. Rabindranath Tagore’s play ‘Dakghar’ directed by Ifti Shahriar Raian was staged on the opening day.

The 15 plays will be staged directed by honours final-year students as per their academic curriculum while the students of other batches are working on set and sound design, casting, costumes, make-up and others.

Salim Al Deen’s drama ‘Sangbad Cartoon’ directed by Rifat Jahan Shaon and ‘Maranbilas’ based on Ahmed Safa’s novel by Rifat Karobi will be staged today.

On October 4, Manoj Mitra’s play ‘Mahavidya’ directed by Mojahidul Islam Rifat and Rabindranath Tagore’s play ‘Chandalika’ by Rezvi Sultana will be played.
