Annual Art Exhibition at DU begins

The week-long ‘Annual Art Exhibition’ of Dhaka University Sculpture Department began on Sunday at the Zainul Gallery of the Faculty of Fine Arts. Dhaka University Treasurer Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury inaugurated the exhibition as the chief guest at a function organized at the Osman Jamal Auditorium of the faculty. Later, he presented certificates and awards to 6 artists for the best artworks.

71 artworks by 43 artists are being displayed in the exhibition. 6 artists were awarded for the best artwork.

Professor Dr. Azharul Islam Sheikh, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Shilpacharya Tanoy, Engineer Mainul Abedin, Lala Rukh Selim, Professor of the Sculpture Department, and Convener of the Art Exhibition Dr. Nasima Haque Mitu spoke at the inaugural function presided over by Chairman of the Sculpture Department Nasimul Khabir.

Jahangir Alam Chowdhury congratulated the awardees. He said, “Art has no boundaries. It has an eternal language. Through this artistic language and artwork, artists find a place in the hearts of people.”

The award-winning artists are – Pratyay Saha (Artist Anwar Jahan Memorial Award), Chinmoy Ghosh (Professor Abdur Razzak Memorial Award), Oli Mia (Sculptor Novera Ahmed Memorial Award), Mridha Md. Raiyan Azim (Professor Hamiduzzaman Khan Memorial Award), Sumit Roy (Best Medium Award) and Supriya Kumar Ghosh (Best Experimental Award).

This exhibition has been organized with artworks selected from the work of the students’ 1st year class. The exhibition is dedicated to the memory of the late sculptor Professor Hamiduzzaman Khan.

This annual art exhibition will continue till Saturday. The exhibition will be open to the public from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM every day.
