Anisul refuses JaPa Chairman’s expelled order
Staff Reporter :
Jatiya Party’s expelled Senior Co-Chairman Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud on Tuesday said they have not accepted party Chairman GM Quader’s expelled order against several leaders.
He said, GM Quader’s newly appointed Secretary General Barrister Shamim Haider Patwary is completely illegal.
“We are still holding our respective positions; our Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu remains in office,” said Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud.
He made this claim at a press conference at Gulshan in the capital. The leader, who was expelled by Jatiya Party Chairman, made the statement just a day after he, along with the party’s secretary general and two other top leaders, was removed from all party posts on July 7.
Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud called the press conference just a day after GM Quader relieved them from their posts and rejected the reference to the presidium meeting cited by Quader.
He said, “First of all, there was no quorum in that presidium meeting. According to Article 20/3(b) of the party constitution, the secretary general, in consultation with the chairman, shall convene the presidium meeting. The agenda shall be set by the secretary general. The party chairman has no authority to call a meeting on his own. After the declaration of the party council (conference), no changes or reshuffles can be made in party positions.”
Barrister Anisul Islam further said, “We have been accused of violating the constitution of the party. But what have we done against the party? We issued statements calling for the repeal of Article 20(a), for ensuring transparency in accounts, and for broader unity. None of these actions can be considered as violations of the party constitution.”
He also accused GM Quader of forcibly taking the position of co-chairman from former party chairman H.M. Ershad while the latter was ill. “GM Quader shows autocratic behavior in every matter,” said Mahmud.
Former co-chairman Kazi Firoz Rashid said the Jatiya Party has shrunk to the brink of collapse. “If we stay united, the Jatiya Party can perform much better in the coming days,” he said. Kazi Firoz Rashid added, “GM Quader has pushed everyone out one by one. We all want a united Jatiya Party.”
Present at the press conference were Mujibul Haque Chunnu, former co-chairman Kazi Firoz Rashid, Syed Abu Hossain Babla, former presidium members Saidur Rahman Tepa, Shafiqul Islam Sentu, ATU Taj Rahman, Solaiman Alam Seth, Nasrin Jahan Ratna, Nazma Akter, Zahirul Islam Zahir, Mostafa Al Mahmud, Masrur Mowla, Jasim Uddin Bhuiyan, and Md. Arifur Rahman Khan. (Photo on page-3)
