Anisul calls Japa council shunning GM Quader
Staff Reporter :
Senior Jatiya Party leader Anisul Islam Mahmud has strongly criticized the recently held party council, alleging that it was organized with the intention of sidelining the party’s current chairman GM Quader.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Anisul claimed the council lacked legitimacy and failed to represent the broader leadership of the party.
“This was not a representative council. It was convened to bypass and weaken GM Quader’s leadership,” said the former minister and Jatiya Party presidium member.
He questioned the motives behind the council’s organization and claimed that it violated the party’s constitution and democratic norms. According to Anisul, many senior leaders were neither consulted nor invited to participate in the process.
The internal rift within the Jatiya Party has intensified in recent months, with factions emerging around competing leadership visions. GM Quader, who officially took over the party leadership following the death of founder HM Ershad, has faced growing challenges from within.
Party insiders say the latest council signals a deepening power struggle that could reshape the party’s future ahead of the next general election.
Despite the controversy, no official statement has yet been released from GM Quader or his office regarding Anisul’s remarks.
