ANFREL-BNP discuss poll issues

A delegation from the Bangkok-headquartered international election monitoring organization, the Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL), held a meeting with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday.

Sayrul Kabir Khan of the BNP media cell said the meeting was held at the BNP Chairperson’s Office located at Gulshan in the capital.

The delegation consisted of four members and was headed by ANFREL’s Executive Director, Brizza Rosales. The other delegates included Maya Bhatti, Tharindu Abeyarathna, and Afsana Amey.

Sayrul noted that the ANFREL team discussed a range of issues related to Bangladesh’s upcoming national elections, along with the involvement of international election observers.

Established in 1997, ANFREL is an independent, impartial, and non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting free, fair, and transparent elections throughout Asia, in line with the principles of universal and equal suffrage.

The network comprises 27 member organizations from 17 Asian nations, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, the Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and East Timor.
